7 Webinars That Will Help You Get Retirement Ready

If you feel you’re not quite ready for your golden years, you’re not alone. Roughly 28% of American workers said they had saved less than $1,000 for retirement, according to a recent Employee Benefit Research Institute Retirement Confidence Survey.

Luckily, there are several resources that can help you learn more about retirement planning and assist you with getting closer to your savings goals. You can improve your knowledge by reading books, hiring a financial planner, and attending financial workshops. However, if you don’t have the means or motivation to go to a workshop, you also have the option of viewing a retirement webinar in the comfort of your own home.

The Cheat Sheet did some of the legwork for you and found several webinars that can help you better prepare for what lies ahead. Here’s what we found.


1. AARP Social Security, Work & Retirement

AARP retirement webinars are free of charge and provide an interactive experience. If you miss one of the webinars, you can sign up and receive a link to access the materials at a later date. Past webinars include “When to Claim Social Security,” “Good Habits of Smart Investors,” “Get the Most of Your Employee Benefits,” and “Social Security and Taxes.”


2. Charles Schwab Online Workshops

Charles Schwab has a collection of online workshops on all aspects of the retirement planning process. Available topics include “Funding Your Paycheck in Retirement,” and “Getting Retirement Ready.”  You also have the option to register for a live webinar.


3. Fidelity Investing Webinars

While Fidelity’s selection of webinars is focused on investing, there is section dedicated to retirement planning. In addition, knowledge level can be filtered by beginner, advanced, and intermediate.  Online seminars include, “Before You Take Social Security: Consider These Four Steps,” and “Minimum Required Distributions: Three Steps to Getting Them Right.”

4. Merrill Edge Webcast Library

Merrill Edge has a rich library of topics focusing on various aspects of money management. The current webinar in their retirement library centers on Social Security and how it will affect retirement planning for different age groups. The second featured video tackles the issue of covering healthcare costs during retirement.


5. TIAA-CREF Financial Essentials

TIAA-CREF has a wide selection of on-demand webinars about saving and planning for retirement. Offerings include “Tomorrow in Focus: Saving for Your Ideal Retirement,” “Halfway There: A Retirement Checkup,” and “Paying Yourself: Income Options in Retirement.”


6. Vanguard Webcast Center

Vanguard offers quarterly webinars and retirement resource tools on its website. Upcoming webinars include “Financial Freedom: Strategies for Reducing Debt and Saving More,” and “Timeline to Retirement.”  Read more about Vanguard’s webcasts here.


7. Wells Fargo Online Seminars

This bank offers plenty of online retirement planning seminars for all knowledge levels. Whether you’re just beginning to put your plan together or you’re nearing retirement and need to freshen up your knowledge, there’s a resource for you.  Featured webinars include, “Investing in Your Retirement Plan: Beyond the Basics,” “Navigating Your Path to Retirement,” and “Retirement Distributions.”
